The new body of work of Christina Paetsch has a unique ‘fetish character’ and at the same time is owing to a multi-layered dialogical principle.
She uses elements of western goods and food culture, which present themselves, so to speak, as protagonists in a very transparent action sequence - clearly visible in the certainty of their own beauty. At a second glance one sees the unusual connotations, in which they float, crossing borders and developing into new worlds.
Technical aids such as cameras, computers and various imaging techniques, coupled with a high degree of sophistication of craftsmanship, clear and distinctive design coupled with a delightful search for new ways and forms create images that are both sensitive and sentimental. But at the same time they seem to be contradictory and disconcerting : it’s the trivialities of our everyday world, the fragmentation of the pictorial space, the imbalance and the opening of the point of view that evoke new visions and ideas; creating tensions, expanding the image space into a space for an open mind. It is a look behind the scenes of the world, that is mired deep in us.
